This tilt in space wheelchair is a brand new model from Esteem which comes with many features that are normally found on wheelchairs that are far more expensive.
Built around a strong double cross braced aluminium frame this wheelchair is designed for users who weigh up to 150kgs or 23 stone. The wheelchair itself weighs just 19kgs and folds with ease.
When it comes to transporting or storing the wheelchair the head rest and foot plates can be removed to reduce the space needed. The tilt in space action is very smooth thanks to the gas struts that control the tilting movement. Tilt in space is often considered to be superior to reclining as it tilts the entire body and not just the upper torso. This is of particular benefit to those who require pressure relief. The tilt range is 98° to 134°.
Other features of this tilting wheelchair include a height adjustable padded headrest that provides support for the head when the chair is tilted backwards. The arm rests can be adjusted backwards and forwards and up and down to give maximum support and comfort. The foot rests swing in/out for transfers and are also height adjustable.
For the attendant there are stepper tubes to the rear of the chair to assist when mounting the curb or a single step. The two levers on the handles operate the tilting action and the brakes that work on both rear wheels to slow and stop the wheelchair. Anti tip wheels are fitted to the stepper tubes to prevent the wheelchair from being tilted too far backwards. Finally there is an adjustable lap belt and chest harness plus puncture proof tyres are fitted all round to give peace of mind when out and about.
This tilt in space model really does represent fantastic value for money and will provide reliable operation for years to come with the minimum of maintenance.
